Horror Convention Poster 2015
Classic Horror – The Scantily Clad Maiden in Distress…
I recently was helping out with the promotional materials for the 2015 Calgary Horror Convention, and for some time now, I’ve wondered how many mouse clicks it takes to produce an image – I downloaded a click counter and slowly monitored the progress.
After setting up and sketching out the imagery, and a few indecisive moves, the main line art of the image took a considerable amount of time – logged it at around 7013 clicks.

Deciding that no horror convention is complete without some sort of slimy tentacle action, I thought it apt to add a cheesy kraken style octopod – As well as setting up some ‘grabbing hands’ of other monsters added another 9452 clicks.

Working out where the hair is going to go added another 10279. It took a few attempts, reflected in the click count.

After tackling the project for a full evening, the complete line art takes form – Frankenstein, Octopod, Mummy and Creature of the Black Lagoon. I also decided that I wanted a ‘cutesier’ looking girl – one that looked a little in peril, and not so serious – I changed the face significantly.

Time for some coloring – First vectored skin shades of our little Jezebel. Another 21615 clicks to get it this far.

I was extremely pleased how the ‘Creature’ turned out, and the coloring went ‘swimmingly’ – another 23112 clicks.

Color shades on her clothing and subtle shading on the entire image.
